A graduate of Boston College, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Sociology. Magna Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa, and a graduate of Boston College Law School. She is a member of the Massachusetts Bar since 1988, the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts and the United States District Court of Appeals for the First Circuit. Early in her career, she served with Federal Judge Magistrate Joyce London Alexander in the United States District Court. By 1990, she established a small law firm focusing almost exclusively on domestic relations law. Ms. Smyth represents men and women, in all aspects of domestic relations cases, including divorces, paternity actions, child custody and support actions, removal cases (where one parent desires to move with their child(ren) out of state), guardianship cases, care and custody actions involving the Department of Children and Families, same sex marriages, and cases involving grandparents rights.
Lisa Smyth, Esq. is also a qualified Guardian Ad Litem and she is frequently appointed by the Court to investigate and to make recommendations in cases involving child custody.
Lisa Smyth, Esq. is also a trained and certified Conciliator and she is frequently appointed by the Court to conciliate domestic relations matters, and endeavors to assist parties with resolution of their cases, without further litigation. Ms. Smyth’s cases over the past 30 years have ranged from the most simple of divorces to very complex divorce cases involving numerous businesses, trusts and investments worth many millions of dollars, complex child custody disputes involving allegations of physical abuse and/or substance abuse, difficult removal cases and multi-jurisdictional litigation. Ms. Smyth has substantial experience with cases involving financial forensics, business valuation, and asset valuation. She resolved many cases involving children with various learning disabilities and parents with psychological disorders and substance addiction issues. She is also experienced in cases involving false allegations of abuse.
